6th Anniversary of The USS COLE Terrorist Attack

U.S.S. COLE

While refueling in Aden Harbor, Yemen, the U.S.S. COLE was attacked on Port Mid-Ships by a small boat driven by two Muslim terrorists with explosives onboard, resulting in a 40 by 60 foot hole in the side of the ship.

17 American Sailors died in the attack. 39 American Sailors were wounded.

A memorial dedication ceremony was conducted at Naval Station Norfolk Virginia on 12 October 2001, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Muslim terrorist attack

Thousands of private individuals and businesses across the country contributed to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society to make the memorial possible.

The Memorial design began as a vision of U.S.S. COLE crewmembers.

Let us never forget those who have given all,
For the sake of the call.

And let us not forget the savages who did this.
